Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.

City officials announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for details.

A high-ranking representative stated the attack made him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
